Tammuz Organization
for Social Development participated in the first conference of
Non-Governmental organizations in the Kurdistan Regional which
was held by the office of the Minister of Civil Society on
6/6/2007 in the hall of Khanzad Hotel in Erbil under the slogan
“together towards the development of civil society in Kurdistan
Regional” sponsored by Mr. Nechirvan Barzani, Prime Minister of
Kurdistan Regional Government. Addition to the prime minister,
presents also ministers from the regional government and the
members of parliament and president of the court of the
presidency of the regional and the regional government
coordinator of the United Nations and representatives of civil
society organizations. At the beginning of the conference in his
speech welcomed Mr. George Mansour, Minister of Civil Society
the participants in the conference, describing the work of a
good job at building a civil society, said that the formation of
the Ministry of Civil Society in the bag ministerial in regional
is a best proof of government to build a civilized society and a
civilian. Also pointed to the objectives of the ministry,
including the definition of civil society organizations and
assess effectiveness and the definition of non states donor and
encourage media and information channels to do its part
awareness.
In his speech gave
Mr. Nechirvan Barzani, Prime Minister of Kurdistan Regional
Government, his blessing to the holding of this conference and
said that the participation in this conference is a manual to
ensure the steps of the development of this field of cultural
and civilization in Kurdistan Regional.
He highlighted some
of the topics of interest to society, the issue of transparency,
women and youth, environment, investment, education and
information.
Mr. Barzani also
summarized the work of the Kurdistan government to cooperate
with civil society organizations in the following points:
1. The work of
Kurdistan Regional Government to issue of special laws in
organizes of the work of organizations.
2. Cooperation of
the Ministry of Regional for the support of civil society
organizations.
3. A web site for
organizations
4. Simplify the
registration of the new organizations.
5. The regional
government with organizations council is supporting the
assessment project of the organizations.
Ms. Bakhshan Zengneh
presents the speech of Mr. chairman of Kurdistan Parliament and
expressing the hope that this conference becomes an important
factor towards building a civil society and said: organizations
that contribute to the development of all that is positive and
good. At the same time, these organizations identify the
negative points and work towards resolving these negatives.
Also, Ms. Zengneh
shows the parliament support to organizations by issuing roles
facilitate its work and stressed the cooperation and
coordination between the committees of parliament and civil
society organizations.
Also discussed
during the conference the six workshops especially on the
following points:
1. The problematic
with getting a work permission to the organizations.
2. Maintaining
independence organizations
3. Budget and
financial assistance to organizations
4. The relationship
between organizations
5. The relationship
between local organizations and donor organizations
6. The organizations
relation to the government.
After the workshop
ended, a summary discussion of each workshop had been
introduced. They form a committee to formulate these demands and
recommendations that will be announced later.
The Tammuz
Organization for Social Development had been represented by Vian
Sheikh, the secretary of the organization and Noor Sami, member
of the foreign relations of the organization.
